Did you know that creativity is a spiritual journey? Every person is creative in their own way. Each one of us has a narrative in our thoughts that is fueled by our emotions. Creativity is the bridge between thought and emotion. Want to discover new ways to cross that bridge into your higher sense of creativity? Here are my 5 simple pleasures to spark creative breakthroughs for a creative journey.
Creative Writing: Write in a Pencil
I can’t tell you the joy I’ve felt recently writing in my journals with a PENCIL! My favorite reason as to why I love writing with a pencil is that you can easily erase your mistakes. It saves the amount of paper I use because when I have a scribble or writing error, I HAVE to start a new page. I treat my creative writing journals like works of art so writing in a pencil allows me to keep my words clean with little to no error. Mind you, the feeling of a pencil gliding across the page is therapeutic.
Here are some of my favorite mechanical pencils based on lead size, eraser, and the grip:
Record Your Voice & Creative Thoughts
Did you know that it is said that an average person has over 6,000 thoughts per day? That’s nearly 3,000 ideas & thoughts that are either new or recycled from previous days. How can you tap into those thoughts to spark creative breakthroughs?
Your own unique thoughts speak a thousand powerful words without you even opening your mouth. Talking out loud is a great way to channel those thoughts from an internal state of mind to an external form; your voice.
No one knows you better than you know yourself and never forget that. Listening to your voice versus provides security in the sense that you will always know what decisions are best for you and how you want to live creatively. Think of your voice in comparison to your instincts and your instincts never lie. Listen to them.
Allowing yourself to record your creative thoughts gives you the opportunity to come back and re-evaluate that same thought but at a different time. When dealing with creative thoughts, especially thoughts based on or stemming from emotion, the emotion always wins. They take away our power to think about our thoughts rationally (and logically). If there is a big creative change that you would like to make in your life, but uncertainty drowns your ambition, record your plan; your ideas. Record your thoughts, grab a latte, then come back and listen to those thoughts with a clear mind. When training the mind to think in a positive way around your creative ideas and thoughts, repetition and habit make a big impact.
My current method to voice recording my creative breakthroughs is hooking up my Blue Snowball Microphone and recording through the Voice Memos app on the iMac.
Re-Read Old Journal Pages
Do you have an old journal from childhood that you have held onto over the years? If so, have mom pull that gem out of the keepsake box, brush off the dust, and discover the magic that is being kept inside.
When I journal, I naturally spark creative breakthroughs through the wonderment that fills my beautiful, complex mind. I believe that when we re-read old journal pages from old versions of ourselves or letters to your future self, it re-lights a fire to old and new thoughts that hold relevance or messages to share where a transformation took place.
One of my favorite journals to this day is my gratitude journal. This journal is dedicated to feelings of gratitude, experiences and people that I am grateful for, and other gratitude wins.
Dress to Impress Yourself & Flow through Playfulness
To spark creative breakthroughs, it’s important to feel GOOD. When we dress to impress ourselves, we feel GOOD and when we feel good, we open the door to creative expression! For me, I express my creativity through wit, out-of-the-box thinking, and silly ways I want to connect with myself and others. Although I work from home, on days where I want to spark creative breakthroughs, I put on an outfit that makes me feel confident and I’ll act silly by playing with the pets or dance around the apartment to one of my favorite playlists on Spotify.
For you, this could look like dancing, stretching, swaying to music; whatever feels natural to you. Find a flow or movement that feels good to you, and let it go!
Create Time & Space for Empowering Projects
When we spark creative breakthroughs to impact ourselves and others for the better, we build a universal infinity sign of ebbs & flows for change. When we create time and space for empowering projects, we open the door to greater opportunities. Have an idea that you know will impact others for good? Lean in & share that gift with others!
